Rohit John Varghese is a robotics system architect with over 9 years of broad industry experience ranging across robotics (mechanical, electrical, electronics, algorithms, and software), product development, machine design, control systems, machine learning, human-robot interaction, and industrial design. He is currently the Director of Research and Development at Harmonic Bionics, Inc., where he oversees all design and development activities of the company, specifically focused on Harmony, the 14 DoF Robotic Exoskeleton for shoulder and arm rehabilitation. Prior to his current role, Rohit served as the Head of Product Development at Harmonic Bionics, where he was responsible for handling product design, controls development and testing, manufacturing, vendor management, clinical interactions, project management, medical & regulatory compliance towards 21CFR820, ISO13485, IEC60601, and other relevant standards. Rohit's educational background includes a Graduate Portfolio in Robotics and a Master's in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Dynamic Systems and Control, both from The University of Texas at Austin. He also holds a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science and completed his Higher Secondary education in Science from Bishop Cotton Boys School, Bangalore. In addition to his professional experience, Rohit has a strong technical background and has worked in various roles such as Research Scientist, Senior Software Engineer, Product Manager, and Product Designer. He is skilled in machine learning, control systems, and dynamic simulations of the interaction points between humans and robots.
